In shortGulf Coast Pain & Spine is an independent, physician-owned interventional pain practice founded in 2015. Five board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians treat spine, joint and nerve pain with image-guided care in Houston and Webster, with Pearland opening November 2026.
Our story
Gulf Coast Pain & Spine was founded in 2015 by Purvi Patel, MD, a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain physician, with a simple premise: patients deserve to know what is causing their pain before anyone treats it. The practice opened in Houston, added a Webster office to serve the Clear Lake and Bay Area communities, and will open a third office in Pearland in November 2026.
Today five board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians care for patients from across Greater Houston, supported by a team that handles the parts of care that patients find hardest — insurance, authorizations, records and scheduling.
How we practice
- Diagnosis before procedures. History, examination and your existing imaging come first; diagnostic blocks confirm the source when it is uncertain.
- Image guidance, every time. Fluoroscopy or ultrasound guides every injection and ablation.
- The right treatment in the right order. Conservative care, injections, radiofrequency ablation, and implanted devices are chosen for the diagnosis — not for the schedule.
- Honest education. Every guide on this site explains benefits, limits and risks, and is reviewed by a physician.
- Communication with your doctors. Referring physicians receive consult and procedure notes.

Are you affiliated with a hospital system?
No. Gulf Coast Pain & Spine is an independent, physician-owned practice. Our Pearland office is located beside Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital, but we are not part of Memorial Hermann.
Do you perform surgery?
We perform minimally invasive, image-guided procedures — injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulator trials and implants, kyphoplasty and SI joint procedures. When a patient needs spine or joint surgery, we refer to a surgeon and continue to help with pain before and after.
Which insurance do you take?
Most major commercial plans, Medicare and workers’ compensation; not Medicaid. See the insurance page.
